Our Story
Founded in 1909, Daventon Baptist Church has been a stronghold of faith and community in Pelzer, SC, for over a century. At the time of our church’s founding, Pelzer was a bustling mill town, home to the historic Pelzer Manufacturing Company, which shaped the local economy and culture. Amid the rapid industrial growth, Daventon Baptist was established to provide spiritual guidance to families seeking solace and purpose in an ever-changing world. Over 100 years later, we continue that mission, grounded in the unchanging truth of Christ's teachings.
Our lead pastor, Reverend J. Eric Blackerby, has been faithfully guiding our congregation for over a decade. A graduate of Bob Jones University with a degree in biblical studies, Pastor Eric has a deep love for scripture and a passion for teaching others how to apply God’s Word in their daily lives. His heart for ministry and commitment to sound biblical doctrine have helped grow our church into a loving and supportive community of believers.

Lead Pastor
Reverend J. Eric Blackerby has been serving as the lead pastor of Daventon Baptist Church with unwavering dedication. A 1991 graduate of Bob Jones University with a degree in biblical studies, Pastor Eric brings both knowledge and passion to his ministry. He is a devoted husband of 35 years to his wife, Jeanette, a proud father of three, and a grandfather of three. His love for family and his congregation is evident in every aspect of his life, as he leads with compassion, wisdom, and a heart for service.
